Training & Capacity Building
We design and deliver training that is built from an assessed need, mapped to defined competencies, and measured against what participants can do afterward.

Why organizations engage us
Training is often commissioned as a response to a symptom. Performance is uneven, a new system has been introduced, or a funder requires staff development — and a course is arranged. The course happens, feedback forms are collected, and the underlying capability gap remains.
We work differently. Every engagement starts by establishing what the organization needs people to be able to do, how far current capability sits from that, and whether training is genuinely the right intervention. Where the gap is structural — unclear roles, missing tools, contradictory processes — we say so, because a training program layered over a structural problem wastes the budget and the participants’ time.
How we design
We define competencies before we design content. A competency framework states what someone should be able to do, at what level, under what conditions. That specificity makes it possible to design deliberately and to assess honestly afterward.
We use the organization’s own material. Applied exercises built from real cases, real documents and real decisions transfer to the job in a way that generic case studies do not.
We design for the time that actually exists. Programs built around an idealized schedule get cancelled. We plan against the working reality of the participants — shift patterns, academic calendars, operational peaks — and structure delivery accordingly.
Capacity building beyond the classroom
Training is one component of organizational capacity. Our capacity-building work also addresses the conditions that let capability take hold: internal facilitator development, documented procedures, mentoring structures, and the management practices that reinforce new skills once staff return to their normal duties.
Where an organization intends to sustain a program itself, we build a train-the-trainer package and prepare internal facilitators to deliver it. The intent is that the program continues without us.
Typical engagements
- An agency introducing AI tools that needs practical, role-specific AI literacy training rather than a general overview
- A nonprofit that needs a leadership development pathway for emerging managers, with a competency framework behind it
- An educational institution developing a professional-development program for faculty and administrative staff
- An organization that needs its own staff prepared to deliver a recurring internal training program independently

Engagement approach
How an engagement typically runs
The sequence varies with scope, but these stages are consistent across the practice.
- 01
Assess the need
We establish what capability gap exists and whether training is the right response. Some performance problems are structural, and training will not fix them.
- 02
Define competencies
We specify what participants should be able to do afterward, at what standard, in terms specific enough to design and assess against.
- 03
Design the program
We build curriculum, materials, facilitation guides and assessments matched to the audience, the delivery mode and the time realistically available.
- 04
Deliver
We deliver directly or prepare internal facilitators, using applied exercises drawn from the organization's own work rather than generic scenarios.
- 05
Evaluate and transfer
We measure against the defined competencies and hand over the materials, so the organization can run the program again without us.
